Starting this year, the California Retail Food Code has been altered to require bartenders to wear gloves when preparing mixed drinks. While noble sanitary concerns are the driving force behind this change, bartenders are already up in arms over this new condition, since it's now going to be increasingly difficult to look awesome using a soda gun, or flipping a liquor bottle, while wearing unwieldy disposable gloves. California's new law is so outrageously anti-cool that it's hard to see the profession continuing to have the same cache it once had — and it also got us thinking about what such a stipulation might have meant for cinema's most famous and beloved bartenders.
