Beware of April Fools’ Day

April Fools’ Day can be dangerous professionally to people like journalists and stockbrokers who trade in facts. It is a day when the Internet, already rife with rumor, becomes an even more fertile breeding ground for hoaxes. Many have become so wary of tricks that they just want to take a break from social media until it’s over. In 2013, The Times did a roundup of big companies and their jokes. No, Sony did not launch a line of electronics for pets. And there is no such thing as Vimeow, a Vimeo service dedicated to cat videos.

The Huffington Post story links back to three stories, all published on the same day:

This version ends with a note:

You might not have ever thought your crazy craving could lead to earning money from a national magazine or newspaper story, but you too could get paid for sharing your experiences.

The Facebook page affiliated with SellMyStory, which functions as a press agency by supplying stories to British publications, posts calls on a regular basis.

Britain’s Hottest New Bar Is Inside a Public Bathroom

Britain’s Hottest New Bar Is Inside a Public Bathroom | ghantagiri.com
A brilliant entrepreneur will debut a high-end, magical-sounding cocktail bar that just so happens to be located inside an old underground public restroom in trendy North West London. It's called Ladies and Gentlemen, of course, and while the grand reveal hasn't gone down just yet, the space is apparently a beauty to look at, with lovely, pre-WWII marble mosaic flooring and arched beams throughout. Also, there's a wall of functioning urinals.

Proprietor Will Borrell, who owns a Polish vodka company, also included room for a grand piano and a small kitchen that will serve his mom's sausage rolls and Scotch eggs. The toilets and urinals have been lovingly refurbished, and somewhere among all these things there will also be an old-school copper alembic that turns out liquor made with "locally grown botanicals."
